Stacked Discounts Multiply, They Don't Add
The most common discount math mistake is adding percentages together — "25% off, plus an extra 10% off" is not 35% off, it's 32.5% off, because the second discount applies to the already-discounted price, not the original. This calculator handles that compounding correctly instead of letting you assume simple addition.
Sale Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount₁%) × (1 − Discount₂%)
Worked Example
| Step | Price |
|---|---|
| Original Price | $80.00 |
| After 25% Off | $60.00 |
| After Additional 10% Off | $54.00 |
| Effective Total Discount | 32.5% (not 35%) |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
No — they multiply. 25% off then an extra 10% off is 32.5% off total, not 35%, because the second discount is taken from the already-reduced price.
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount% ÷ 100). Switch this calculator to "Sale Price → Original Price" mode and enter both numbers.
