This grade calculator works out a weighted course grade, the score you need on your remaining work or final exam to reach a target grade, and a grade from total points. Enter numbers from your syllabus and gradebook. Nothing is stored.

The grade so far is 5,050 ÷ 60 = 84.17%. The final, worth the remaining 40%, is still to come. To finish with 90%, you need (90 − 50.5) ÷ 0.40 = 98.75% on it. For 85% you need 86.25%.
Score Needed on the Final Exam
If your current grade is 86% and the final is worth 30%, the work done counts for 70% of the course: 86 × 0.70 = 60.2 points. For a 90% course grade you need (90 − 60.2) ÷ 0.30 = 99.33% on the final.

With 80% on the final the course grade would be 60.2 + 24.0 = 84.2%. The heavier the final, the more one exam can move the grade in either direction.
Grade From Points
412 points out of 480 is 85.83%. If 120 more points are still to come, the course total is 600. A 90% needs 540 points, which is 128 more, and only 120 are left, so 90% is out of reach. An 85% needs 510 points, which is 98 of the 120, an average of 81.67%.
Letter Grades
The letter shown beside a percentage uses the common 10-point scale: 90 to 100 is an A, 80 to 89 a B, 70 to 79 a C, 60 to 69 a D and below 60 an F. Schools set their own scales, and many add plus and minus grades or use different cut-offs, so the letter is a guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. Homework at 92% worth 20%, quizzes at 84% worth 15% and a midterm at 78% worth 25% give (1,840 + 1,260 + 1,950) ÷ 60 = 84.17%.
What do I need on my final exam?
Take your target grade, subtract your current grade times the share of the course already done, and divide by the final's weight. With a current grade of 86%, a final worth 30% and a target of 90%, you need (90 − 86 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 99.33%.
What if the weights do not add up to 100%?
If they add up to less, the calculator gives your grade so far and treats the rest as work still to come. If they add up to more, it shows a warning and gives the weighted average of what you entered.
What does it mean if I need more than 100%?
The target cannot be reached on the remaining work without extra credit. Lower the target to see what is still possible.
How is the letter grade decided?
The calculator shows the letter on the common 10-point scale: 90 and above is an A, 80 a B, 70 a C and 60 a D. Many schools use different cut-offs or plus and minus grades, so check your syllabus.
Can I use points instead of percentages?
Yes. The points mode divides points earned by points possible. Add the points still to come and a target to see how many of them you need.
