What is lorem ipsum?
Placeholder text used in design and publishing to fill a layout before the real text is ready. It looks like ordinary text, with words of mixed length, sentences and paragraphs, but because it is not readable it keeps attention on fonts, spacing and layout instead of on what the words say.
Where does lorem ipsum come from?
It is scrambled Latin from De finibus bonorum et malorum (On the Ends of Good and Evil), written by Cicero in 45 BC, sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33. Words are cut and changed, so it is not real Latin: "lorem" is a fragment of "dolorem" (pain). Richard McClintock, a Latin scholar, traced the source and published it in 1994. The text spread through Letraset transfer sheets in the 1960s and desktop publishing software in the 1980s.
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing exact, since the words are scrambled. The original passage by Cicero is about pain: no one loves pain for its own sake, but people accept some pain to gain a greater pleasure.

Is the generated text different each time?
Yes. The first paragraph or sentence is the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" text (turn that off with the switch), and the rest is assembled at random from the same Latin words, so each click of New text gives a fresh set. You can use it freely; it is not copyrighted.
Should I use lorem ipsum or real text?
Lorem ipsum is fine for testing a layout's look. Before a design is final, try it with real or realistic text too: real headings, names and product descriptions have different lengths, and some languages (German words, Urdu and Arabic script) take much more or less space or run right to left.
