Does changing the DPI change the pixel quality or file size?
No! Changing an image's DPI metadata tag only alters the intended print dimensions. It modifies the EXIF/JFIF header without re-compressing or discarding any actual image pixels.
Why does my image show 72 DPI when uploaded?
Many digital cameras, web browsers, and screenshots save files without embedding explicit printing resolution tags. When no DPI tag is found in the EXIF/JFIF header, standard web resolution (72 DPI) is displayed by default.
What is a good DPI for printing photo prints?
300 DPI is universally considered the gold standard for high-quality photographic printing. At 300 DPI, individual dots of ink are invisible to the naked eye at normal reading distance.
