Social Media Image Resizer

Resize a picture to the exact size for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit or X, cropped or fitted without cropping.

Runs in your browser. Your image is not uploaded.

Portrait post 4:5 – 1080 × 1350

The standard tall post; fills most of the screen in the feed

This social media image resizer turns any photo into the exact size a platform expects: a YouTube thumbnail or channel banner, a Facebook cover photo, an Instagram post or story, a TikTok photo, a Reddit banner or an X header. Pick the platform and the size, drag the picture to choose what shows, and download. When the shape does not match, you can crop it or fit the whole picture on a blurred or plain background instead.

How to Resize an Image for Social Media

  1. Pick the platform and the size, for example Instagram and Portrait post 4:5.
  2. Add your picture. It is placed in the frame straight away.
  3. Choose how it fits. Crop to fill uses the whole frame and cuts off the edges. The two Fit options keep the whole picture.
  4. Drag and zoom until the important part is in view. Profile pictures show the round crop; banners show the area every device can see.
  5. Download as JPG or PNG at exactly the size shown.

Sizes come from each platform's own help pages (YouTube Help, the Facebook and Instagram Help Centers, Reddit Help and the X Help Center), checked in October 2026. TikTok has no help article on photo sizes, so its sizes are the ones TikTok's own pages recommend. Platforms change their layouts often; if something looks cut off after uploading, check the platform's help page.

Crop or Fit: Which Should You Use?

  • Crop to fill gives the cleanest result when the subject is in the middle, such as a portrait or a product shot. Some of the edges are lost.
  • Fit, blurred background keeps the whole picture and fills the gaps with a soft, blurred copy of it. It suits a landscape photo going into a tall story or a tall photo going into a wide thumbnail.
  • Fit, plain background adds white, black or any colour around the picture. It is the usual way to post a whole photo on Instagram, and it suits screenshots and artwork. For Instagram, the Instagram No Crop tool does this with the Instagram sizes only.

Tips for Sharper Social Media Images

  • Start bigger, not smaller. Shrinking a large photo keeps it sharp; enlarging a small one makes it soft. Use a picture at least as large as the size you pick.
  • Keep text away from the edges. Apps put buttons, names and captions over the edges of stories and banners.
  • YouTube has its own tools for the two images that matter most: the YouTube Thumbnail Resizer shows how a thumbnail looks in the feed, and the YouTube Banner Resizer shows what each device crops.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best image size for social media?

There is no single size: each platform and each place on it has its own. For posts, 1080 pixels wide is the common ground: Instagram keeps photos at that width, and it is sharp on every phone. Use 1080 × 1350 (4:5) for portrait posts, 1080 × 1080 for square, and 1080 × 1920 for stories and full-screen TikTok photos.

How do I resize a photo without cropping it?

Choose Fit, blurred background or Fit, plain background. The whole picture is shown, and the space around it is filled with a blurred copy of the photo or a colour you pick.

Why does my image look blurry after uploading?

Usually because it was smaller than the size the platform shows it at, so the platform enlarged it, or because the platform compressed it again. Upload at the exact size from this tool and the platform has no reason to rescale it.

Should I save as JPG or PNG?

JPG for photos: the file is much smaller and every platform accepts it. PNG for graphics with text, logos or flat colours, where JPG can leave smudges around sharp edges. If a PNG goes over a platform's file size limit, the tool saves a JPG instead and tells you.

Why is my profile picture shown in a circle?

YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Reddit and X all show profile pictures as circles, so the corners of the square are hidden. The preview darkens those corners; keep your face or logo inside the circle.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser, and the picture never leaves your device.
