UMT Grade Points
This UMT CGPA calculator uses the grade points published by the University of Management and Technology's Office of the Controller of Examinations. Pick the letter grade for each course and the calculator does the rest.

The table from A+ to C- and F is on UMT's Assessment and Evaluation page. D+ and D come from UMT's grading notification effective Spring 2013, which marks them as not applicable to master's level and above. The semester GPA is 44.3 ÷ 13 = 3.41. The 1-credit lab pulls the GPA down far less than a 3-credit course with the same grade would.
Relative Grading at UMT
UMT's examinations page says the university grades relatively: a student's letter grade depends on where they rank in the class, and teachers may use a bell-shaped curve, the distribution gap method or the standard deviation method. Marks from sessional work and the end-term exam are added and then converted to letter grades.
Because of this there is no fixed table of percentages for UMT on this page. A 78 can be a B+ in one class and an A- in another. Enter the letter grades from your result, not your marks.
From Semester GPAs to CGPA
Use the second tab for CGPA. Enter each semester's credit hours and GPA. A first semester of 16 credit hours at 3.41 and a second of 17 credit hours at 3.10 give (54.56 + 52.70) ÷ 33 = 3.25.

What are the grade points for each grade at UMT?
UMT's Office of the Controller of Examinations lists A+ and A as 4.0, A- as 3.7, B+ as 3.3, B as 3.0, B- as 2.7, C+ as 2.3, C as 2.0, C- as 1.7 and F as 0.0. A UMT notification effective Spring 2013 also lists D+ as 1.3 and D as 1.0 for bachelor's programs only.
Does UMT use relative grading?
Yes. UMT's examinations page says the university has adopted the relative grading method, where a student's grade depends on ranking in the class. It names the bell-shaped curve, the distribution gap method and the standard deviation method.
What percentage is an A at UMT?
UMT does not publish fixed percentage cut-offs on its examinations page. Under relative grading the marks needed for a grade depend on the class, so this calculator works from the letter grade you were given.
How is the UMT GPA calculated?
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, the results are added, and the total is divided by the credit hours. This is the standard credit-weighted method. UMT's examinations page lists the grade points but does not print the formula.
Do P, I and W grades count toward GPA?
No. UMT lists P (Pass), I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), SA (Short Attendance), S (Satisfactory) and NC (Non Credit) as symbols with no grade points. Leave those courses out.
What are the minimum passing marks at UMT?
The Spring 2013 notification gives 50% for bachelor's programs and 60% for master's, MS, MPhil and PhD programs, and says the sessional work and the end-term exam must be passed separately. Check the current rules for your batch.
