Meme Generator

Make a meme from your own picture: classic top and bottom text, a caption bar on top, or a demotivational poster.

Runs in your browser. Your image is not uploaded. No watermark.

This meme generator turns your own picture into a meme in three popular styles. Classic memes put white capitals with a black outline at the top and bottom of the picture. Caption memes put the joke in a white bar above the picture, the way memes are shared on social media today. Demotivational posters frame the picture on black with a big title and a line underneath. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

How to Make a Meme

  1. Pick a style: Classic, Caption on top or Demotivational poster.
  2. Add your picture. A screenshot, a photo or a saved image.
  3. Type your text. Use Enter to break a line where you want it.
  4. Adjust the font, size, colour and capitals if you like.
  5. Download the JPG and share it.

Tips for a Better Meme

  • Keep it short. A few words at the top and bottom read faster than a paragraph. Put longer text in a caption meme.
  • Leave room for the text. In classic memes the text covers the top and bottom of the picture, so faces in the middle stay visible.
  • Use a clear picture. The meme is saved at up to 1600 pixels, which stays sharp on phones without making a heavy file.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a meme?

Choose a style, add your picture, and type the text. The meme updates as you type. Press Download meme to save it as a JPG, ready to post or send.

Does this meme generator add a watermark?

No. The downloaded meme is just your picture and your text.

What font do memes use?

Classic image macros use Impact in white capitals with a black outline. Impact is installed on Windows and Mac; on phones without it, the tool uses Anton, a free font with the same look. Caption memes usually use a plain sans-serif such as Arial, and demotivational posters a serif.

Where can I find meme templates?

This tool works with your own pictures: a screenshot, a photo or an image you saved. Bear in mind that popular meme templates are often frames from films or photos owned by someone else.

Why does my text get smaller?

Long text is shrunk so it fits within the picture: up to three lines for classic memes, six for a caption. Shorter text stays at the size you set.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The meme is made in your browser and the picture never leaves your device.
